Biography

At a very young age, I was drawn to the graceful lines, and alluring sound of stringed instruments. Master Craftsmen such as Amati, Guarneri, Stradivari, and others created instruments that allowed composers and gifted musicians to expand their creative boundaries, and take music to a higher level of technical excellence.

It was not long before I discovered I had the God given talent, and desire to  immerse myself in this challenging work. My career began in the area of repair and restoration work, and progressed to accepting the challenges of carving my own instruments. I owe a great debt of gratitude to my mentors, both here and abroad,  and to a long list of others who encouraged me along the way.

The longer I worked at refining my skills, the more apparent it became that the quest for technical excellence is never ending. You have to be willing to re-examine every element of the craft each time you sit down at the work bench. Each instrument must be addressed in a unique manner to achieve it's potential.

Throughout the site you will see examples of recently completed instruments. The photos show refined Italian styling, and compliance to tried and true standards established centuries ago.

There is a vast difference between a factory assembly line instrument, and one that has been hand-carved, by one person from beginning to end.

Below you will see photos of what a violin looks like prior to carving and assembly.  Most musicians find this remarkable when they compare the raw materials to a finished instrument.

Gammuto violins are considered to be works of art by some, but my main focus is on the development ,and refinement of tone quality. The inventory in the workshop is always changing, and it is likely I will have an instrument that will meet your specific requirements.
